Ford Supports Two-Year Consensus Building Project

Amigos Bravos has been awarded a generous grant from the Ford Foundation for the Somos Vecinos, "We are Neighbors" project. This grant will develop a forum to support necessary dialogue between traditional Pueblo and Hispano acequia (ditch system) water users and environmentalists. Initial August meetings will set the stage for the next several months of consensus-building. The forum will fashion a meaningful multi-cultural process addressing the protection of natural, cultural, and spiritual environments, and historic and cultural integrity. While there are shared beliefs about water, there are also varying spiritual practices, cultural approaches, beliefs and perspectives that need to be understood and considered in developing water policy. The Somos Vecinos project is being coordinated from the Amigos Bravos Albuquerque Office.
