Riverthon a Success!

Amigos Bravos' hiking, biking, partying Riverthon on September 26 was a great success, thanks to everyone who pitched in and participated. Pledges from hikers and bikers who completed the spectacular 10-mile West Rim trail will contribute to our protection and restoration efforts on behalf of the Río Grande and New Mexico's rivers.

Raffle prizes generously donated by local businesses included a BMX Bike from Gearing Up Bike Shop that went to Gus Herold, day packs from Mudd n' Flood Mountain Shop and Taos Mountain Outfitters that went to Mary Humphrey and Chris Pieper, and two half-day rivertrips on the Río Grande from Big River Raft Company that went to Will Cook and Lindsey Sheffield.

We are grateful to the many other business donors and sponsors who contributed food, drink and miscellaneous support, including the Bureau of Land Management, Centinel Bank, Eske's Brew Pub, Furr's, Los Ríos River Runners, Super Save, Smith's, and Tiburon Builders. Thanks also to Jimmy Stadler and the Colliders and the Seco Paths for an afternoon of fun music at Taos Junction, and to volunteers Susan Berman, Hope Buechler, Linda Fair, Richard Herold, Chris Pieper, Leo Trujillo, Kristen Ulibarrí, and Ross Ulibarrí, who helped organize and also kept participants well-watered and fed. We look forward to seeing everyone out there for our second Riverthon next fall!

Welcome Back, Pat McCabe!

We are happy to welcome Pat McCabe to our staff this October as the new Outreach Director. Pat's name might be familiar to Amigos Bravos members; as one-time Associate Director, more recently a member of the Board of Directors, and an active volunteer, she has served the organization in many ways over the years.

Pat's baby son Liam (pictured in our 1997 Annual Report) is now three-years old and romping around at Leaping Lizzards Preschool, leaving Mom free to give more time to Amigos Bravos.

A Navajo tribal member, writer and mother of four, Pat brings a broad range of skill, experience, enthusiasm, and wisdom to the work of getting the word out about the work we do. Since leaving the staff in late 1996, Pat has spent her "time off" participating in many forms of indigenous ceremony, and returns to us with a renewed passion for our work on

Welcome back, Pat!
