Raffle Winners!
Amigos Bravos congratulates the winners of its Fourth Annual Winter Getaway Raffle, and thanks all those businesses and individuals who bought raffle tickets to help protect and restore the Río Grande watershed. We are especially grateful to KTAO radio, who generously donated time and CDs to help promote the important work of protecting the region's rivers.

The winning tickets were drawn on Earth Day (April 22) on KTAO 101.9 FM by Amigos Bravos Membership Director Ellen Levy, and broadcast live. The First Prize trip for two to Rancho Encantado, a beautiful eco-resort and spa on the Yucatan Peninsula, went to Julia Vasquez of Taos; the Second Prize, a romantic weekend for two at the lovely Dobson House, an uncommon inn on the Río Grande, went to Ed and Sue Barengo of Albuquerque; the Third Prize, two one-hour massages at the incomparable Ten Thousand Waves Japanese Spa, went to Stuart Levy of Champaign, Illinois; Fourth Prize, a spectacular rafting trip for two down the Río Grande went to Cidney Fee of Taos (the last person to buy a ticket in this year's raffle!).

Our most successful raffle yet, the 1999 raffle raised more than $13,400 to protect the region's rivers. Some 538 tickets were purchased-a dozen more than last year. Raffle proceeds benefit Amigos Bravos' Rapid Response Fund, which enables us to meet challenges not anticipated in our annual budget. In the past, these have included providing technical assistance to villages affected by a proposed open-pit mine, and fees paid to expert witnesses who testified on behalf of Amigos Bravos' Clean Water Act lawsuit against Molycorp. Raffle proceeds will put us in a position to meet other such challenges in 1999!

By helping to preserve these vital rivers, we all win.

Amigos Bravos thanks all those who made our Second Annual Río Grande Painting Party & Art Auction a great success! Thirty artists participated this year and helped to raise more than $8,000 to protect New Mexico's wild rivers and the legendary Río Grande!
